There’s a silent killer on the loose
Worldwide
Our freedoms are restricted
In lockdown
We know that we need social contact
We know that we should communicate
We know this keeps us well
But we’re reduced to virtual friendships
From a distance
Skype, Teams, Zoom
In lockdown
I can exercise easily enough
Living rurally
Cycle forgotten lanes with sweeping views
In lockdown
My daughter
Only eight
I see weekends
She’s adapting and coping well
The resilience of youth
But I fear it; the virus
As an over-50 male
And I‘m tired, sad and lonely
In lockdown
I do my best to keep communicating
Conference-calling
Engaging with friends through social media
But when will it end?
The lockdown
We can adapt our social contact
We can communicate differently
We can stay well, but not indefinitely
We need a solution, a conclusion, the touch of friends.
